Implemented in partnership with Nature Concerns Inc., the Sustainable Backyard Garden Initiative was carried out in the Ngomgham Community of the Bamenda III Council Area, North-West Cameroon. The initiative was designed to strengthen household food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable gardening practices by equipping community members with practical skills and resources.

Through hands-on training workshops, approximately 200 local farmers and households were trained in sustainable agriculture, organic backyard gardening, and seed preservation techniques. To support the establishment of productive home gardens, participants received seeds of nutritious and climate-resilient vegetables, including bok choy and spinach which are rare to find, yet highly nutritive.

The initiative encouraged families to grow their own food, diversify their diets, and increase access to fresh vegetables while reducing dependence on external food sources. By promoting backyard gardening and sustainable food production, the project contributed to reducing hunger, improving household nutrition, and strengthening community resilience.

The Integrated Sustainable Backyard Garden Initiative demonstrates how community-led solutions can improve food security, empower local farmers, and create sustainable livelihoods while fostering a culture of self-reliance and environmental stewardship.
